We're all for new and exciting ways to travel but never thought we'd see a plane made of sand.

Australian airline Qantas made quite a stir in Sydney this week when it unveiled a Boeing 737-800 made entirely out of sand.

The giant sand sculpture was to promote the start of new services from Sydney to the Gold Coast.

The sand plane consists of several rows of passengers, a captain and co-captain.

Intricate details, such as the flight deck instruments were also incorporated into the design of the quirky sculpture.

And you'll never guess who has a special seat on the sand plane? Dame Edna Everage! The Australian comedian, famed for her lilac-hued hair and cat-eye glasses, was given a front row seat and the public were invited to take a seat next to her and have their photos taken.

We're not sure if it will catch on but we sure like the idea of sand travel!
