Rare flat rainbow pictured streaking across Paris skylineBarcroft

As if the vista of the Eiffel Tower wasn't dramatic enough, a rare flat rainbow provided an even more majestic picture of the City of Love last week.

The horizontal rainbow, known as a fire rainbow, was pictured above the Paris skyline by a photographer who managed to capture the Eiffel Tower being bathed in its glow.

Parisian Bertrand Kulik, 32, spotted the unusual display out of the window of his apartment in France's capital.

He quickly grabbed his camera, and framing it against the iconic Eiffel Tower, captured the city's skyline.

The phenomenon was brought on by heavy rainstorms that lashed Paris last week, and is caused by a unique combination of the sun's position and the shape of ice crystals in the air.

Très romantique, don't you think?
