Question: what do you do if you can't find any water to kayak on? Answer: find some molten lava instead.

This kayaker did just that - and even managed to set his oar on fire in the process. SCROLL DOWN FOR VIDEO!

Pedro Oliva, from Brazil, paddled within feet of the red-hot liquid flows pouring down from Kilauea volcano, on the island of Hawaii.

But as if that wasn't enough, he decided to get out and explore the expanding coastline - on foot.

He even tested the searing heat of the 700C to 1,100C molten lava by dipping his oar in it - before it promptly caught fire.

Wearing white sunglasses to protect him from the lava's glare, Pedro walked on recently cooled flows, which rapidly expand the island's size.

Pedro was part of an expedition to explore some of Hawaii's lesser known kayaking routes with Chris Korbulic and Ben Stookesberry.

Californian Ben, who was stood in a boat out to shore, told Barcroft Media: "This was a bit of a side journey.

"We were on a big kayak expedition exploring the rivers and waterfalls of Hawaii, but there had been no rain and the rivers were empty.

"So to keep ourselves occupied we took our kayaks out to see the lava flows. We didn't have any intentions of getting as close as we did to the lava.

"But Pedro being Pedro, wanted to explore a little closer."

Ben, a professional kayaker himself, added: "Once Pedro realised he wasn't going to instantly melt away, he got out and started walking on the cooled lava.

"He dipped his oar into some lava and it literally exploded right there."

The group, who spent one day exploring the lava flows, which cascaded down from a 200ft cliff, braved red-hot water temperature tipping 50C degrees.

Ben said: "One of the biggest dangers was the toxic steam produced when the lava comes into contact with the water.

"You could hear the sound of the lava hissing as it hit the ocean. It was out of this world.

"The actual ocean itself would burn your hand if you put it in there."

The group were filming the latest leg of TV programme Kaiak, an adventure kayak series aired on Brazilian channel Canal Off.

During the trip last month they explored four islands - Big Island (Hawaii), Maui, Kauai, and Oahu - scouting over 300 waterfalls and rivers.

Review: Disney dreams the family wayDisney Magic on Parade - Disneyland Paris

It's been almost a year since Disneyland Paris celebrated its 20th Anniversary. Since then, more than 16 million guests have flocked to the park to join in the celebrations with Mickey and co. If you missed it, the good news is that this historic event was such a success that the park has extended the celebrations until the end of September 2013! We went along (complete with a three-year-old) to see what's new for 2013...

London to Disney in less than three hours
The thought of travelling little ones in tow may sound daunting, but it's a pleasure. Getting on and off the train is seamless, staff are on hand to help with the usual excess baggage that comes with taking a child anywhere and if you have really little ones there are a number of special facilities such as bottle warming and baby changing to take advantage of.

Top tip: Don't forget to pack things to keep the little ones entertained - a selection of colouring books should do it and if you own a tablet, upload a few of your child's favourite programmes.

Best rooms in the house?
If you opt to stay at one of Disneyland Paris' seven hotels, most of them are within walking distance of the station and the parks themselves. Yes, we know it sounds clichéd, but if you are a true Disney fanatic, then the magic really does begin when you set foot in the hotel. Staff go the extra mile to welcome children by greeting them personally and giving them a name badge. You also get priority access to the main characters, so don't be surprised if you see Mickey and Minnie greeting guests as they arrive.

We stayed in the Hotel New York, one of the resort's key hotels. With two swimming pools, a gym, restaurants and bars, there are plenty of things to keep you occupied. Rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable - but let's face it, you don't really go to Disney to spend your weekend in a hotel room...

Top tip: The Disney hotels provide a daily schedule of the characters that you can meet and this is probably the quickest and best way to get some great photos.

What's to love?
Every little detail of the Disney experience has been carefully planned and executed so that whatever age you are, you get the most out of your stay. Having only visited the park before with adults, it was amazing to see the park though a child's eyes. Needless to say, accompanying a three-year-old means that a lot of time is spent in Fantasyland and we were totally fine with that!

Top tip: If you stay in a Disney hotel, you get priority access to the park before it opens (between 8-10am).

Top tips for families

From princesses to rollercoasters, families with youngsters can easily spend a whole day just exploring Fantasyland. Our particular favourites were 'It's a Small World' and 'Dumbo the Flying Elephant', while meeting Sleeping Beauty was the icing on the cake.

Do plan your day meticulously to avoid queues. Savvy parkgoers should take advantage of the fast passes, designed to give you a timeslot to go on some of the more popular attractions.

Don't miss the Disney Magic on Parade - teeming with princesses, characters, music and colour, this really is a great way to break up your day and you can hire buggies at around €12 (£9) 3- this is really recommended if your child is under five as there is a lot of walking. A buggy can really help you all get the most out of your time in the park.

Check the height restrictions on all of the rides. You will be surprised at how many rides the little ones can get on. Height restrictions for Thunder Mountain, Crush's Coaster and The Tower of Terror are all 1.02m.

Beware of the gift shops! They are everywhere and purchases all add up. Set a budget and stick to it! On the other hand, if you are buying gifts, the best place to do it is Disney Village - be sure you check the opening times.

Disney's award winning 'Dreams' show has been given a makeover with the addition of brand new sequences from the Lion King and Brave. This unmissable show, projected onto Sleeping Beauty's castle, is packed full of lasers, fountains, fireworks and Disney characters. We particularly loved the Disney Light Ears, which are all synched to change colour.

Review: Disney dreams the family wayDisney Dreams - Disneyland Paris

If you do one thing while you're there...
The Finding Nemo themed 'Crush's Coaster' in Walt Disney Studios. It is easily our favourite roller-coaster in the park. Queues get very long and there are no Fast passes so this is best visited as early as possible!

Review: Disney dreams the family wayMeeting Mickey - AOL Travel

And the best bit of all?
One of the key highlights for us were the staff - they really went the extra mile to help our experience go as smoothly as possible and to help make the magic come alive for the little ones.

Ever wanted to tackle the Great Wall of China? How about Machu Picchu, or even your local National Trust park or gardens? Well, first things first, you'll need a decent pair of walking boots. We're giving away three pairs of men or women's Salomon boots from Snow+Rock.

The Salomon Men's Quest 4D GTX (RRP £155) is an extra light backpacking boot that provides stability and comfort and makes use of Salomon's most advanced trail running technologies.

The Salomon Women's Comet 3D Lady GTX (RRP £140) is an equally lightweight boot with a fit that's been specially optimised for women. The boots provide great stability, cushioning and mid-height support.

When packing for an adventure holiday, light walking boots should be top of your list as trekking through jungles or hiking up mountains in anything else will more than likely result in blistered and bruised feet, but with comfort and protection you could be heading the group!

Britain has some fantastic landmarks and landscapes that were made for trekking, including Scotland's Highlands, Dorset's Jurassic Coast and Snowdonia's mountains.

If you fancy heading further afield, you'll be inspired by the views atop Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Mont Blanc in the French Alps or Torres del Paine in Chilean Patagonia.

Visit snowandrock.com for more information.

Jessica Alba shows off perfect beach chic on holiday in St BartsFameFlynet

She's always perfectly groomed in real life, so it's no surprise that Jessica Alba does flawless beach chic, too.

The Sin City actress hit the shores of St Barts with friends - and her hubby Cash Warren - this week.

St Barts, or St Barthélemy, is a Caribbean overseas territory of France, and is a honeypot for the rich and famous, being known for its beaches, gourmet dining and high-end designers.

It's a volcanic island fully encircled by shallow reefs, has an area of 22.1km² (8.5mi²) and a population of 8,902. However, tourism attracts about 200,000 visitors every year.

St Barts has about 25 hotels, most of them with 15 rooms or fewer. The largest has 58 rooms.

Most accommodations are in the form of private villas, of which there are some 400 available to rent on the island.

The island's tourism industry, though expensive, attracts 70,000 visitors every year to its luxury hotels and villas and another 130,000 people arrive by luxury boats.

The height of tourism is New Year's Eve, with celebrities and the wealthy gathering in yachts up to 550ft in length for the occasion.

Back in 2011, Roman Abramovich threw a £5 million bash for a lucky select 300 guests at his £58 million holiday estate in St Barts, according to the Telegraph.

The estate, which was once owned by the Rockefellers, has a handful of swimming pools, pavilions and beach bungalows, and is the near the beautiful Gouerneur beach on the upmarket island.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers provided the entertainment, and guests, who were told the wear "island chic", were led through candlelit pathways to get to an elaborate marquee in the garden.

We're not sure if Jessica attended that, but she's obviously having a splashing time with her own friends.

Choose your meal before you fly: Airline launches drag and drop menuAir Baltic

Forget fighting for the last chicken sandwich on a cheap flight: as one airline has found a solution to passengers' inflight food dilemmas by offering the world's first pre-ordering system for airline food.

Next month, Air Baltic passengers will be able to log on to the website 24 hours before boarding and drag and drop items from a menu onto a virtual tray to create a meal of their choice.

At the moment, the airline offers 20 pre-order meal options and four dietary meals, including gluten-free, lactose-free, vegetarian and kosher.

But the new 'pick and choose' system will offer endless possibilities.

According to InflightFeed, passengers must order their meals 24 hours before flying, though forgetful travellers can still have an inflight meal (lasagne option only) which can be booked up to 40 minutes before a flight at the ticket desk in Riga.

Using Mary Poppins as inspiration for an extreme sports stunt is a new one on us.

But professional extreme athlete Erik Roner wanted to see if he, too, could fly with an umbrella.

Dropping from a hot air balloon over California, he says to the camera: "I'm hanging out under an umbrella, under a hot air balloon. I'm going to see if an umbrella actually slows you down, like Mary Poppins does."

Just before he drops from the hot air balloon, he asks: "What am I thinking?". Erm, good question.

He can be seen floating through the sky under the umbrella seamlessly for a few seconds, before the air pressure changes and turns the umbrella inside out, forcing him to use his parachute the rest of the way down.

Upon a safe landing, he says: "You're welcome, science, for the big step forward. Nasa's going to be able to use that one for years to come. Thanks for the idea, Mary Poppins."

New £2bn theme park in Kent threatened by colony of rare spiders?

New £2bn theme park in Kent threatened by colony of rare spidersStock photo, jumping spider: Getty

Plans for a new £2 billion Paramount movie theme park in Kent could have to be put on hold following the discovery of rare spider colony on the site.

An environmental audit of the brownfield site at Swanscombe Peninsula, Kent, discovered the group of jumping spiders, which can only be found in one other place in the UK, the West Thurrock marshes in Essex.

The spiders have made a home in the area as they flourish in the alkaline soil created from cement kiln dust created by former workers on the site.

The spiders are on the UK Biodiversity Action Plan priority species list, although they are not actually legally protected, according to Kent News.

According to the Daily Mail, the Joint Nature Conservation Committee have deemed the species as being one that requires conservation.

The theme park planners , London Resort Company Holdings (LRCH), will either have to find a new site for the arachnids, or find a way to accommodate them.

Tony Sefton, project director for LRCH, said they could create a 27-acre wetland wildlife park at the attraction where the spiders could continue thriving.

He told the Independent: "We will look after the spiders. We're doing a good thing.

"The alkaline land is dreadful for most forms of wildlife. But there is this particular spider that likes very alkaline conditions."

Dartford Borough Council leader Jeremy Kite said there are solutions to preserving unusual species.

According to Yahoo News, he said: "In the past we've moved fish, we've sent voles away on holiday; it's fairly common and protects them from building works.

"Then when they're finished they're brought back."

If it goes ahead, the Paramount theme park will be home to Europe's largest indoor water park, as well as boasting theatres, cinemas, restaurants, hotels, and live music venues.

Thanks to the 872-acre site, it would be the third biggest theme park in the world - being twice the size of the Olympic Park - and could create 27,000 jobs.

Where is England's real Lake District?

Croydon is the real Lake District, says tourist groupLake Windermere/Getty

The Lake District is not in Cumbria - it's actually in Croydon.

So claims the South Norwood Tourist Board, which is demanding that Cumbrian authorities relinquishes its claim to the title.

In a missive addressed to the Cumbria Tourism, the self-appointed tourist group it argues that that the area around Croydon has more lakes than Cumbria, and that it is therefore "England's official Lake District".

The group points out that it has two lakes, while Cumbria only has one. Ninety-three of the 94 "lakes" in Cumbria are in fact meres, tarns and waters, it says.

Croydon is the real Lake District, says tourist groupSouth Norwood Lakes/Rex

And it insists that its scenery is every bit as good as Cumbria.

Residents of South Norwood have defended the plans to claim the title of Lake District.

Speaking in the Evening Standard, one local walker, Liam Campbell, praised the campaign, saying:"It will get people to recognise this beautiful area and the wonderful lake... in the summer you can't beat it."

Cumbria Tourism told the BBC that it was not taking the demand too seriously: "I'm sure the ponds of South Norwood have their merits and it is flattering that they wish to emulate our natural environment, albeit in a modest way," said Ian Stephens, the tourist board's managing director.

The SNTB was formed in July 2012 by three friends in a pub last year. The group is also campaigning to get South Norwood Lake (pictured above) renamed as the Conan Doyle Lake, as the author used to play cricket and wrote one of his novels, The Reichenbach Falls in the area.

Its website includes a tongue-in-cheek quote from Dr Johnson: "A man who is tired of South Norwood is tired of life... A man who is tired of the Lake District is normal."

What do you think? Have you seen the lakes of South Norwood? How do they compare with Cumbria's?

Lisa Marie Presley enjoys family holiday in HawaiiSplash

It looks like every other country in the world is enjoying fabulous weather except for the UK.

Ok, that might be an exaggeration, but Lisa Marie Presley managed to escape Blighty's less-than-balmy temps and jetted off for a family holiday in Hawaii.

Lisa relocated to East Sussex in August 2011 with her husband of six years, Michael Lockwood, and their four-year-old twin daughters, Finley and Harper (who knew she'd beaten Victoria Beckham to that one?).

But she reportedly owns a holiday home in Hawaii, meaning the clan can escape Britain's unforgiving weather whenever the fancy takes them.

Elvis' daughter was spotted enjoying the rays with her family wearing a sky-blue strapless bikini and a pink sarong.

She wisely kept the sun off her face with outsized sunnies and a wide-brimmed straw hat.

We'll try to console ourselves with the knowledge that this Sunday is set to be the warmest day of the year so far, bringing T-shirt and BBQ-friendly temps of up to 21C.

Not quite Hawaii, but it'll have to do.
